Present professional position and workplace:
Professor Paula Ormandy leads a programme of research in Long-term conditions as an experienced health service researcher. She led and developed the PhD/MPhil post-graduate research programme, within the University of Salford. She has many years of experience in executing and leading on research funded projects and service evaluations across different primary and secondary care settings. Her expertise focuses on information needs research and using digital and social media to facilitate communication, networking and information provision in clinical practice. This includes: designing and implementing a patient-led information service, grounded on patient information needs, within a local chronic kidney disease service; using digital media to provide accessible information to boys and young men to increase engagement in their sexual health; increasing cervical screening uptake in Lesbian, Gay and bisexual women through a digital and social media campaign. Paula worked for five years on collaborative epidemiological research across Europe, examining renal clinical practice and four years as the scientific programme chair for the EDTNA/ERCA annual international conference. She is Vice President for Research for the British Renal Society and chairs the UK Kidney Research Consortia which brings together national clinical study groups to develop a coordinated national approach to nephrology research.
